Keyword Selection

Keyword SEO Selection (Page 3 of 4)

Follow these recommendations:

14. Search - Spend time searching Google, Yahoo, MSN and AOL using terms from your spreadsheet. Do your major competitors come up when you use these search terms? If they do you can be assured that these terms are the most popular. Also search for singular and plural terms on Google.

15. Off-Page HTML Code and Meta Tags

  • Title - All web pages must have a title tag that is relevant to the web page content topic. This is the most important tag. Use a minimum of 3 words but no more than 8 words.
  • It is a good practice to include a description tag. Use a minimum of 5 words but no more than 12 words.
  • The keyword meta tag is optional.

16. Things to Avoid

  • Do not include a keyword in your meta tag that is not present on the page.
  • Do not repeat a keyword without having other word separation.
  • Do not use text smaller than 10pt. It is hard to read and search engines may interpret this as spam (tiny text).
  • Do not use white text on a white background (invisible text).
  • Do not use the same meta tags and page elements on all pages within your website. Design each page as a potential point of entry for your visitors.
  • Do not have too little content on each domain. Search spiders could conclude that there are too few pages to be of value. Try to have at least 25 or more pages on a domain.
  • Do not duplicate pages on the same domain or across multiple domains.
