Keyword Research

The first step in optimizing for search engines is understanding how your audience may be searching for you. You will want to set up a spreadsheet listing your findings from the following resources:

1. Yahoo Keyword Program - Use Yahoo Search Term Suggestion program.

2. Google Keyword Program - Use Google AdWords Keyword Suggestion program.

3. Review server log files - It easy to review and analysis your website's server logs.

4. Competitors Keyword Meta Tag - Review your competitor's keyword meta tag and note the keywords used.


5. Keyword Web Page Density
- Find the top websites under a given keyword and perform a keyword density test on the listed page (usually the index page).

6. Interviews - Ask your customers, employees, friends how they found your website or what keyword terms they would use to find your website.

7. Search Engine Searches - Spend time searching Google, Yahoo, MSN, and AOL using terms from your spreadsheet.

8. Product Identifications - Always include your product model number and name (i.e. Product Name) as a keyword.
